Bull, what's up with the lack of design?
This concept arose as a kind of Jerry McGuire-esque epiphany one morning in June 2004 while laying in bed ordering my day. It began as an idea to have my clients provide me with testimonials of my competence via cell-phone messages made while driving (coming soon!). As my thoughts began turning around this idea I began to imagine all the hilarious things that could be said. I became very excited to put this testimonial thing up on the CBP site.
I then began thinking about how to integrate the testimonials into the site and what design needed to be done. It then occurred to me that I was asking my clients to be OPEN and HONEST while I am presenting the world some overblown, pretentious face of a web site when really CBP is just The Bull and my connections. In other words the epiphany was: be OPEN and HONEST yourself, dude. That led to the idea of making my site VERY OPEN and HONEST in content and design. Therefore I constructed only a very simple stylesheet, used no logo, and used a bare minimum number of images. I used ColdFusion for the email on the contact page. What I didn't do was get around to asking my clients for testimonials. Instead they told others about my work and they contacted me and I got too busy to get testimonials. Still am.
What exactly does Crashing Bull Productions do?
CBP specializes in the web design and construction of small to medium-sized organization's web sites and web site maintenance for existing sites (some of which I designed and other that someone with a fancy web design business web site designed). CBP also can assist you setup of your domain and email boxes, register your site with search engines to get you on the road to getting on the Web. CBP employs ColdFusion for web-based applications as well as Flash technology when needed or requested. My clients have generally been non-profit organizations, artists, and small business owners but I've worked with larger companies as well and currently maintain sites for a couple sizeable companies.
What is CBP's pricing structure?
I structure along two guidelines:
I spent a good part of my life trying to make music and write for the stage and screen. There was never any money and money sure could have come in handy. I remember this always and base my pricing on this sensibility. Generally there is a base level at which my pricing structures begin for new or redesign site construction. Please contact CBP to find out more.
Do you really work all by yourself, Bull?
I founded Crashing Bull Productions in October 1999 as a one-man operation and since then have constructed most sites myself. I generally work closely with my client to ensure happiness abounds. I love it when a client claims they aren't creative then prove themselves wrong - and this happens all the time. We're all creative my leiges! What we aren't all, and this includes me, is hardcore programmers. So sometimes I need to outsource programming when the coding is too advanced for my tiny little coding brain parts or when a site utilizes PHP, ASP, etc. which I'd love to learn, oughta learn but... well...
Do you like your work?
Well, I love to work and it can be very fulfilling and I greatly enjoy learning new things. In this business there are OCEANS to learn! Now, if you mean "Do I like the output of my work?" ah, jeez, my mid-western upbringing really squelches my ability to toot-my-own-horn. I try real hard to produce the best work I can (a benefit of a mid-western upbringing).
